Snickers Commercial: Road Trip

Snickers used this ad during the superbowl, it is so clever to use 2 divas in the ad to get their message across to their target audience.

Fear Advertising Appeals
A fear appealfear appealA psychological basis that motivates the viewer toward the advertiser’s goals by emphasizing negative consequences that can result unless a consumer takes the recommended action. dwells upon the negative consequences that can result unless a consumer takes the recommended action. A recent advertising campaign for the Volkswagen Jetta took this approach; spots depict graphic car crashes from the perspective of the passengers who chatter away as they drive down the street. Without warning, another vehicle comes out of nowhere and brutally smashes into their car. In one spot, viewers can see a passenger’s head hitting an airbag. The spots end with shots of stunned passengers, the damaged Jetta, and the slogan “Safe happens.” The ads look so realistic that consumers have called the company asking if any of the actors were hurt. Advertisers often resort to fear appeals when they want to bring about a radical behavior change, such as driving responsibly, eating healthily, or quitting smoking.

Beyonce has a very clean cut reputation and had always maintained it over the years despite the fact she is marred to Jay-Z. She is being used more and more by companies to endorse their products due to her reputation and she is a role model to young girls. She is not super skinny (of the size 0 club) just normal size, keeps fit as a regular person would, no extreme diets etc. People can associate themselves with her, they respect and admire her more because of this, as well as being a superstar she has never given in to the pressure of the cut-throat celeb obsessive-ness with weight loss.

Examples of product placement in movies, tv shows…

"Castaway" (FedEx) and "You've Got Mail" (AOL). James Bond checking his Omega watch or Superman eating Cheerios. “Collateral” he's driving a cab with a big "Bacardi Silver" ad on top throughout the film.….and of course “Waynes World” with so many obvious product placements. Its even been brought into popular TV shows “Friends” with bottle of jagerbomb on the fridge throughout the whole series.
Now entertainment shows have product placement “American Idol” with coca cola glasses on table – the Federal Communications Commission in the US is expected to relook the rules for product placement in television shows as the strategy of inserting brands in entertainment becomes more widespread.
